Duncan is an Associate of Air Quality Consultants, a company which he founded in 1993. He has more than 40 years’ experience in environmental sciences. Originating from an academic background, Duncan worked in local government for a short period of time before moving into the private consultancy business.
He has been involved in major studies of air quality, including nitrogen dioxide, lead, dust, acid rain, PM10 and ozone. He has been responsible for the Defra contract to appraise all local authorities’ air quality Review & Assessment reports, and has carried out air quality assessments for a wide variety of infrastructure projects including power stations, road schemes, ports, airports, railways, mineral extraction and landfill sites, and residential/commercial developments. He has acted as expert witness at numerous Public Inquiries.
He has served on many UK and EC committees and working groups including the Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG) and the Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollution (COMEAP). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Air Quality Management
